Nike Dunks SB Low Pro is inspired by the Jameson Irish Whiskey bottle. Cream leather, which represents the bottle label, appears on the toe box, side panels and collar, while green suede smothers the rest of the upper in representation of the bottle color. The red swoosh and tongue logo represent the bottle cap on the Jameson bottle. This shoe was well-received and flew off the shelves of retailers; therefore, the Jameson slogan, “Not a drop is sold till it’s seven years old”, does not apply to this release.
"A lot of sneakerheads, they'll sit on them and then they'll resell them on eBay and make a killing," said Bob Levoy, manager of Westside Skateshop in Tarpon Springs.
Cheap Nike Dunks releases them quietly at different times, sometimes in Europe first. The buzz is born in chatrooms and websites devoted to sneakers. People praise them, or tear them down.
Giambalvo knows how it goes. He started skating at 11 and spent all his time in Westside Skateshop. He dreamed of being a professional skateboarder, but reality intervened and he needed a job.
For skateboarders, shoe collectors, "sneakerheads," they're an obsession. A hobby. For some, they're income. Skateboard shop owners call Nike Dunks their 401K plan.
Nike Air Force 1 High date back more than 20 years. They're a high-top basketball shoe with a distinctly 1980s aesthetic.
It's the latest in
Nike Skateboarding's line of exclusive, limited edition shoes. The
nike Dunk SB came out this week, selling for $108 in about 400 skate shops in the country. They won't last. They're already selling for three times that much on eBay.Giambalvo designed the shoe. He is 23, a shy skateboarder from Dunedin. This, he said, is surreal.
"You always think someone is going to laugh at you, like, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard," he said. "But any time you do something that hasn't been done, that's what gets the kids excited."
nike dunks will be giving out “Golden Record” invitations to a select lucky bands at this year’s South By Southwest Festival. The company’s presence in Austin can also be felt at “Boston To Austin,” where they’ll host eight Boston bands, and at Saturday’s Rolling Stone Rock & Roll BBQ, which they’re co-sponsoring. One of the bands performing on the bill is Beast Make Bomb, the winners of nike’s Get Out Of The Garage Music Contest. nike will also be introducing emerging Chinese bands Queen Sea Big Shark and Carsick Cars at the Festival.
