"A lot of sneakerheads, they'll sit on them and then they'll resell them on eBay and make a killing," said Bob Levoy, manager of Westside Skateshop in Tarpon Springs.
Cheap Nike Dunks releases them quietly at different times, sometimes in Europe first. The buzz is born in chatrooms and websites devoted to sneakers. People praise them, or tear them down.
Giambalvo knows how it goes. He started skating at 11 and spent all his time in Westside Skateshop. He dreamed of being a professional skateboarder, but reality intervened and he needed a job.
For skateboarders, shoe collectors, "sneakerheads," they're an obsession. A hobby. For some, they're income. Skateboard shop owners call Nike Dunks their 401K plan.
Nike Air Force 1 High date back more than 20 years. They're a high-top basketball shoe with a distinctly 1980s aesthetic.
